Oggetto
The course provides a double perspective on economic development: i) a macro perspective on the economic development of countries, highlighting the role played by inter-country technology transfer; ii) a micro-perspective, which analyses the link between Multinational Corporations and the economic development of host countries, focusing specifically on the process of local technology transfer.

Apprendimento in termini di conoscenza
The course tries to answer the following questions:

Do Multinational Companies (MNCs) promote economic development in host countries? That is, what positive or negative effects do companies like e.g. Nike, Volkswagen or Coca-Cola generate when they decide to invest in a developing country?

How and under what conditions do MNCs transfer knowledge and skills to host countries?

What do Governments do to attract MNCs in their countries? How do they do it and why?

To answer these questions, the course provides a double perspective on economic development: i) a macro perspective on the economic development of countries, highlighting the role played by inter-country technology transfer (given by Davide Fiaschi); ii) a micro-perspective, which analyses the link between Multinational Companies and the economic development of host countries, focusing specifically on the process of local technology transfer (given by Elisa Giuliani).
